Throughout the month of December, I find myself reflecting over the past year and remembering what the year held in my personal life as well as for my business. Exploring the wins, lessons learned and everything in between (the things that made this year unique!) is a great way to set yourself up for making needed changes and moving into 2024 intentionally.
For me, a highlight was leading 15 class sessions (some in-person and some online) on basic marketing for small businesses as I partnered with three separate organizations who support entrepreneurs (NYSBDC, Ibero Business Center, The Enterprise Center at PathStone).
I especially enjoyed how each class led to new connections. Class instruction is most definitely part of my business plans moving forward. I’d like to include more specialized workshop-style classes where business owners can make real progress on marketing their business.
My biggest challenge this year was unexpected health challenges that lead to a major surgery with a long recovery period. I had to slow down my client work and take over a month completely off to allow time to rest and heal. I was reminded about some of the best parts of owning my own business – that I can call my own shots and make adjustments as needed. I learned to hold my goals and plans a bit more lightly. I also appreciate the work I get to do even more after a season where I had many limitations.
